The fight against the “thingification” of humanity is entering its new phase with the rise of the grassroot revolt against data center expansion. In support of this burgeoning movement, @seattledsa’s ecosocialists along with @350seattle and @troublemakerscommunity put on the first of two (and potentially more!) sessions of The People’s Forum on Artificial Intelligence, with the next session focusing on the labor dimension on December 8.
It took a million spinning plates to pull this off, but the team smashed it (opa! pun intended). I’ve dedicated much of my adult life to the politics of infrastructure, so I’m proud to be part of this new wave of that age-old fight.
I’m pretty pleased with how these Holga shots turned out on this roll of Harman Phoenix. The discoloration adds to the bleakness of this post-nuclear landscape.
Unfortunately, the other 8 frames I’d taken elsewhere didn’t seem to expose at all; probably something to do with the flash I was testing out with those. I might try that again with a less experimental film stock.
A Palestinian I met at this event who grew up between Texas and Washington and studied in California said I had a New York style. Multiple memes ran through my head in response (What We Do in the Shadows re: “cool guy,” some riff on NYC looking more like me now after Mamdani walhamdullilah, etc.), but I settled for: “I’m a Lebanese mélange of whatever.”
