I went to a Halloween party slash fundraiser called SOLIDARITY IS NOT SCARY on Friday dressed as the most terrifying thing I could think of, but you had to be there to be in on the bit.
I was actually attending in my dual-card capacity as a member of @seattledsa and ACWA, so I spent much of the night standing behind a table with flyers and this vantage point, until the speeches started, when we heard from members of the two SAM labor unions that we were raising funds for, as well as @kcimmigrantrightsalliance, who were also receiving a portion of the funds.
The energy was great, and I’m looking forward to making this event an annual ritual. Solidarity really isn’t scary; it’s actually kinda fun.
Friday’s Halloween-themed SOLIDARITY ISN’T SCARY FUNDRAISER organized by @samvsounion & @samworkersunited at @parnassusproject was a very slick silent art auction you could tell was put together by a team of museum workers.
@christine.bingham.art had donated two artworks to the auction that you can read about on christinebinghamart.substack.com – I was especially delighted to see and hear how enthusiastic the winning bidder on ‘The Devil’ was about that piece: “I will cherish it for the rest of my life” 🖤🖤🖤
One of my favorite things about Friday is what it feels like it is representing to me, as I settle into healthier rhythms of activism and expression in Seattle.
Over the past two years, I’ve struggled to find the right balance between work, passion, family, and purpose, and I really enjoyed the feeling of having some of those threads come together and stitch a less fragmented self on a single night.
