“City sidewalks, busy sidewalks
dressed in holiday style.
In the air there’s
a feeling of Christmas.”
I’m going back home for Christmas for the first time in five years. My mother asked if I’d be upset to see our old place decorated; she knows how I’ve been feeling for the past month or so, and even Bethlehem is canceling the festivities. I told her no, quite the opposite. Christmas joy is what keeps my hope alive.
The last time the festive season found me this blue-tinged, we were in the depths of the pandemic, and now that feeling always reminds me of this carol:
“Ring-a-ling, hear them ring –
Soon it will be Christmas Day.
Soon it will be Christmas Day.”
Soon it will be Christmas Day.
