Yesterday was so fun! Thank you @northwesttastings and everyone who passed by to chit-chat about my art! I’m really touched by the opportunity to share the stories I’ve loved so much for so long.
The Saint Project will be on display for the rest of the month, so go grab yourself a glass or two and don’t skip out on the Filomena cheese (yes, like the saint!) – it’s delicious!
I’m so proud of @christine.bingham.art for her faithfulness to her art and mission, doggedly pursuing every project she puts her mind to for however long it takes, against any adversity that comes her way. It’s been an honor and a privilege to walk with her on this journey from day one.
Saturday was the antivenom to the bitter sting of Friday, when I heard shocking news about a friend I made years ago and only knew so fleetingly, it seems. I surprised even myself with the intensity of my grief, but I’ve had time to peel back the psychic layers to better situate the sadness; in the sharp jolt of the moment, however, my soul made sure my brain wouldn’t block the tears.
Hold on to these moments. Get greedy about every sunset witnessed among friends. Recognize them when they’re around. Love them while they’re here.
Someone this morning said that tragedy often takes us one of two ways: shocking us into numbness or turning us more tender and appreciative of the smaller things. I choose the latter.
Maybe that’s what “sainthood” as a project is about. Christine’s exhibit is called The Sainthood Project for different reasons, one being that sainthood is more than canonical — it’s a community project, in which, oftentimes women lift up other women years before officialdom ever catches up.
But it’s also a project in the psychological sense. From the corpses, flowers grow, the song tells us. From the martyrs, beautiful mythologies. This must be. It cannot be any other way. No pain should pass in vain.
