Re-Witnessing Lebanon

I asked @ouroboros.community what the cosmic soup had cooking for me, and this is what she said: “You are closing the calendar year with a gorgeous full moon in your sixth house of day-to-day life, work, and health. Even though the world wants us to make New Year’s resolutions, the transits currently want us to reflect on the past. How far have you come regarding these areas? How much do you feel supported by your community?”

I found my old #CanonPowerShot A710IS while rummaging through boxes at my parent’s place and was pleasantly surprised to see a bunch of photos I’d taken in 2012 still stored on the memory card. These were mostly taken around Dora, a major semi-formal transit hub in what was once called “East Beirut.” It’s a fascinating story I’ll tell some time; for now, I’m just happy to see this old #digicam still works—they’re coming back in vogue and are being re-sold for prices far beyond their single-digit megapixel capacity should warrant. Vintage vibes in our lifetime.

A friend called these photos I’ve been taking at these visits I’ve been making acts of “re-witnessing.”

This is our family’s church door which I’ve never seen unlocked; there’s a newer Maronite church that’s for more regular use closer to the town square – it’s where I got married, in fact. But that wasn’t the case when my family first settled here more than two centuries ago. They were the only Maronites at the time, which is why we ended up with a “family church.” This morning, my uncle told me how they’d almost convinced him to join the priesthood to help run the place, but Shweiri summers were too much fun for a teenage boy so he had to say no. Anyway, swipe to spot the kitty cat, if you can.
