The Grand Tour Ritual (and the Spanish Steps)

This was my first time in Italy, so, of course, we did all the basic rituals that people have done since the days of the Grand Tour. This one in particular was a top priority, however, the magical thinkers that we are. We even visited it twice; passing through on our first morning in Rome, and then again on our last day, when we did the thing and landed two lucky coins over our shoulders, despite the usual area where people congregate being roped off that day, for some reason. I guess we’ll be returning. Swipe to see how drastically the quality of light can affect the mood. x

Some of the sights are so stuffed with tourists that the only way to truly enjoy them is to fully embrace it, like some form of social compersion or vicarious joy. These are the Spanish Steps. I heard one person ask another why they’re called “Spanish,” and I must admit, I don’t know and didn’t remember to look it up. I could do that now, I suppose, but I don’t really want to. x

Some after-hour vibes around Rome, plus one from Florence, just because it fits the mood.

I took a better shot inside that Palazzo, but I really liked how this came out when I accidentally bumped my camera into bulb mode. More from other cities soon. x
